What is a self? Something stable? Something we create? Something reflected back to us by others?
In the philosophy of orientation, we define the concept of the self as “an abbreviation of mere self-referentiality”: the “self gains shape in the self-structuring of orientation, and through this self-structuring it at the same time stabilizes itself.” “The self of orientation is this orientation itself” (read more in Stegmaier’s “What is Orientation? A Philosophical Investigation,” chap. 8).
